Aimee Isobe is the singer of Japanese pop group Mishmash*. She recently came to New York City to shoot a music video with director Steve Guttenberg for an upcoming release. Aimee contacted me to do a promotional and lifestyle shoot while she’s in town. She stayed at the Boro Hotel, a cool new hotel in Long Island City, Queens. Aimee’s hotel room was tiny, but it was enclosed by floor to ceiling windows on two sides of the room. There was also a deck, which sadly we weren’t able to access.
The shoot with Aimee was fun. She wanted to do two things. One idea was to shoot her in the bathroom mirror putting on make-up as a commentary on vanity in the social media age. The other idea was a little sexier; Aimee wanted to do a fashion lingerie shoot on her bed with flowers. The flowers were a bit too much, so we got rid of those and just focused on her natural beauty. We also ran up to the roof, where Aimee donned a Japanese kimono looking out over LIC and Manhattan at sunset.
