The baby boy sleeping in this black and white fine art print does appear lifeless, almost dead. As is common in Central America and other tropical areas, Jaen is just sleepping underneath a mesh net to protect him from flies and other insects. He lives in La Chureca, the city trash dump in Managua, Nicaragua. Thankfully, the 1700 inhabitants of La Chureca have since been moved in to proper housing by the government. Jaen was photographed using a Hasselblad 500 CM medium format camera with Kodak Tri-X black and white film. The film was hand-developed and scanned on a top-of-the-line Hasselblad Flextight X5 Scanner.
