Amelie and Lauren, who are native French, are the founders of Apparis. It is a fashion shop that brings boutique French fashion designers to New York City specifically and American market generally. They wanted to use an American fashion photographer and models, so that their image would have a more “American” look and feel, and thereby appeal more to an American audience.
Amelie found me through the magic of the inter-webs and loved my work. She asked me to do a catalog shoot featuring the boutique French fashion designers she wanted to sell, so they could launch Apparis. At our face to face meeting, there was a clear positive vibe. Although both Amelie and Lauren have worked in the fashion industry in Paris, this was their first time producing such a big shoot. Amelie was, understandably, a bit trepidatious. So we agreed to do a short test shoot with a model to work out a look she’d be happy with and get her comfortable.
Pleased with the results, we did the live shoot a couple weeks later. We photographed nearly 120 looks with two models over two 9 hour days of shooting.
